Introduction

In this post, I’ll talk about some terms that you may hear in parade commands, and what they mean.

Terms to address groups of people

KAWALAN KERHORMATAN

This is used to address the GOH (Guard-of-Honour) contingent, which may bear arms (the WMG). They are usually standing at the front of the parade, and will undergo an inspection by a VIP, Guest of Honour, or the President.

KUMPULAN BENDERA

This is used to address the flag party/colours party. As you would expect, these are the flag bearers. In my school parade, they bear each of the UG flag. In the NCDCC HQ Parade, they would bear the school’s NCDCC flag. Most drills ending with SENJA-TA would be addressed to either the GOH contingent(s) or the flag party.

BARIS

This terms can be taken to mean ‘everyone’. In parades, it can refer to the supporting contingents (when calling them onto the parade square) or every contingent (when marching off the parade)

PENANDA TANDA

This usually address the markers for the respective contingent. Note that not all parades will have markers. My school, for example, have them (probably due to the many UGs we have, so the positions could get messy), while in the NCDCC HQ Parade, you have to just follow your CC or your tape markings on the floor.

Common commands

MASUK BARIS

This command is used to call specific groups onto the parade square. It is typically followed with the marching command, to get the contingent to march onto the parade.

DARI KIRI/KANAN, CEPAT JALAN

This is the marching drill that you should be familiar with. It marches the contingents onto the parade square.

Command before march-past (the really long command)

In parades, the following gets the contingents to get into position for the march past. This is just before the marching command to march off. It goes something along the lines of AKAN BERJALAN KELUAR, DALAM MASA CEPAT, KAWALAN KERHORMATAN DAHULU, BEGERAK KE KANAN, KE KANAN PUSING. Essentially, this means the contingents will march off in quick time with the GOH contingent in front, and that everyone needs to turn right (this uses the full turning command).

Conclusion

So there we have it. Some terms to address people and common commands you may hear. I just put this quick guide together so you know what the parade commander is shouting, next time you watch/be in a parade.
