History

NCDCC, which stands for National Civil Defence Cadet Corps, is a newer Uniformed Group in Singapore. It was founded in 2005 “in response to the need for the young leaders of tomorrow to have a firm pillar and grounding in Singapore’s firm belief of Total Defence” (Source: Wikipedia).

Connections

NCDCC is linked closely to the SCDF, like how NPCC is to the SPF and how NCC is to the SAF. NCDCC trains its cadets in different aspects, such as fire safety, CPR, using the AED, as well as SANA awareness.

Specialisation Courses

In Secondary Three, cadets learn attend a 3-day Specialisation Course at NCDCC HQ, for one of the following 4 courses.

Courses

  1. Medical Response. Cadets will learn how to perform CPR, use the AED, as well as lifesaving skills.
  2. Fire Safety. Cadets will learn about fire hazards, how to prevent fires, and how to put out fires.
  3. Urban Search And Rescue (USAR). Cadets learn how to rescue trapped victims in collapsed houses, and actually simulate it in a fake house that has fallen down. Cadets will also learn different rescue methods, like the 2-handed seat and the double human crutch.
  4. Marine Fire And Rescue. Cadets will learn about the SCDF marine vessels and firefighting skills, as well as rescue methods.

Conclusion

The NCDCC teaches cadets useful skills, like CPR and AED, firefighting, and rescueprinciples, inside and outside of Specialisation Courses. It is an enriching and fun-filled Uniformed Group that serves to educate cadets further on Civil Defence.
