Introduction
This command allows you to salute to the left/right/front during marching. It’s typically used in a parade, where during the march-past, you do this to salute to the Guest of Honour as a sign of respect. You typically salute to the right, but saluting to the left is really almost the same, the only difference is which way you tilt your head and salute (left or right).
HORMAT KE KIRI/KANAN, HORMAT
This command is given on the left leg, and the timing is check-up-2-3-4-5-cut
. On check
, you take a step with your right foot, and on up
, you take a step with your left foot, and also tilt your head to the left/right and salute. See this guide on saluting if you need to refresh your memory on saluting.
Then, on 2-3-4-5
, you continue taking steps. On the right, left, right, left legs respectively. Then, on cut
, which is on the right step, you put down your hand and look front (it’s like PANDANG KE HADAPAN, PANDANG after KE KANAN LURUS). After that, you continue marching like normal.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Stop timing aloud when looking to the left or right. Instead, time in your head. Only continue timing after
cut
.
HORMAT KE HADAPAN, HORMAT
This command is also given on the left leg, and the timing is check-one-two-check-up-check-down-check-up-check-down-check-turn-check-one
. See how you have to salute twice? Yes, that’s not a typo. On check-one-two
, you BERHEN-TI (but without the BERHEN-TI command being given, just the timing). Then, you salute to the front like normal, before doing a KE BELAKANG PUSING on turn-check-one
, then starting to march.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Remember to salute twice. It can be forgotten sometimes, and that will be very obvious.
Conclusion
Saluting on a march is a bit more complicated, but isn’t too difficult. Remember to cut
your salute when saluting to the left or right, and to salute twice when saluting to the front. Good luck!
