Introduction
Well, well, well! I went for the SCDF Day Parade Selection test. Yes, I know what you’re thinking - Surely Nathaniel isn’t going for another NCDCC event? I’m afraid, dear reader, that it’s the opposite. Here, I’ll document my experience in the test (and what you can expect). Read on to find out if I’ve made it or not!
The test
Whether I liked it or not, I found myself trudging going back to the dear HomeTeam Academy. Luckily for me, it wasn’t that bad. Plus, I recognised a few familiar faces from past courses like UDI.
Water parade
Yep, same old, same old Water Parade. Nothing new to see here.
Footdrill test (whee!)
We were split into 2 groups, 1 to stay at the drill shed and 1 to walk march to the Parade Square to do the selection.
It wasn’t that bad. The test comprised of the warm-up period, where any mistakes would not be recorded. Then came the actual test. As a Rota, we would be graded by column by an AFI.
The drills tested were the general footdrill ones, SEDIA and SENANG DIRI, marching, amongst others like PANDANG KE KANAN/KIRI, PANDANG.
💡 TIP: Prepare all your FD Bronze and FD Silver drills. These are the main ones being tested.
Later, we went to the drill shed where we were taught by a HO (who I won’t name here, but all I’ll say is that they were also in my UDI course) on some common mistakes that could happen when doing drills.
We were also instructed by WO (Encik) Kalai on things like discipline and amongst others, also pointed out who needed to cut their hair (which included me).
Did I get in?
We were told we were going to receive the results in 1 or 2 days, but it was really 3 days before we got them. Anyway, the result is…
I GOT IN!
What with UDI and writing this blog/website, I guess this will be a nice experience and another thing under my belt.
Also, yes, if you’re wondering, I will post my experience on that when the parade is over.
Bye for now!
